The county bought a sweeper for $37,829 in December 2007, and it was delivered in February. But after using the new sweeper for about 100 hours, the highway department had quality concerns and negotiated a no-cost return agreement with the dealer, Aring Equipment Co.
The potential violation came when the new sweeper was ordered with a couple of new options costing $755 more than the original bid price authorized by the county board. An after-the-fact resolution to approve the purchase passed 9-6.
The board voted 8-7 to buy a 2009 Ford F-250 pickup truck with crew cab, all-wheel-drive and optional orange paint color for $25,604 from Fountain City Ford Inc.
