Charles Tubbs was named Tuesday as the new chief of the police force by state Department of Administration Secretary Michael Morgan. He will start the new position about Sept. 1.
Tubbs takes over for David Heinle, who retired last fall.
Tubbs now works as administrator of the state's Division of Juvenile Corrections, where he manages five state juvenile correctional facilities housing 600 young people. He previously worked as deputy police chief in Beloit.
The police force provides security in the Capitol and state government buildings in Madison and Milwaukee.
Tubbs will earn about $110,000 a year in the position, about $10,000 more than his predecessor.
