The 46th annual Winona Health Auxiliary Birthday Ball is Sept. 13 at Signatures.
Last year, the event raised a record $24,977 for a patient ceiling lift system to help transfer patients. This year, money will help buy pediatric physical therapy equipment and a dialysis machine. It will also help provide health care education scholarships.
“Passport to Adventure” is this year’s theme, and the evening has an international flavor. Pre-ball parties will start at 5 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and beverages provided. Chef Douglas Dahlgren will prepare a five-course meal based on authentic Moroccan flavors; dinner is served at 8 p.m. Dinner entertainment is provided by the Winona State University International Dancers.
“It’s something to really look forward to,” said publicity chairwoman Peggy Whalen.
The Brian Kinney Band will perform at 9 p.m. at the Visions stage with the Price, Graham & MacDonald Trio playing from 6:30 to 11 p.m. on the Signatures stage.
A huge raffle will be held at 10:30 p.m. Raffle items including a 47-inch flat-screen TV, Minnesota Vikings tickets, a custom-made Australian black opal pendant and a makeover package.
The event has become a tradition for many who like to get dressed up and help others. It started in 1963, raising $4,221. Since then, it’s raised more than $500,000 for health care improvements.
“It’s a great cause,” publicity co-chair Heather Martin said. “If we can expand what we have here in Winona, it helps everyone.”
