One worker trapped in rubble as strong winds toppled trusses

.
ARCADIA, Wis. — A barn under construction a few miles north of Arcadia collapsed Wednesday, trapping at least one man in the rubble, witnesses said.

Strong winds knocked over one huge truss of the new cattle barn at about 3:30 p.m. on Wisconsin Highway 93 and caused a domino effect, toppling all the trusses on the east side of the barn, said

At least one worker was on top of the structure when it collapsed and fell about

25 feet to the ground, he said. Another man was trapped in a piece of heavy equipment and waited for emergency crews to haul him out, Maliszewski said.

One of the workers suffered scrapes to his back and was taken to the hospital, Maliszewski said. Three others didn’t appear to be badly injured but were taken to hospitals by ambulance as a precaution, he said.

“At least nobody got killed,” he said.

The barn was about three weeks into construction work and will be delayed now by at least another five weeks while new trusses are ordered, Maliszewski said.

The names and conditions of the workers had not been released by authorities late Wednesday evening.
