An interviewing committee unanimously named Russell its top choice among three candidates for the post, said Goodview City Administrator Dan Matejka.
Russell is no novice at enforcing the city’s laws; he’s a 19-year veteran of the department and has been assistant chief for 10 years. As chief, Russell will oversee four full-time officers and 14 part-timers.
Matejka said Russell will need to maintain quality police protection amid tight budget constraints.
“The challenge will be to provide services befitting for a city like Goodview, maybe with limited resources,” Matejka said.
Russell could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
