Russell to lead Goodview police

.
Goodview leaders have tapped assistant police chief Kent Russell to head the city’s police department when the current chief, LaVern Hauschildt, retires in October.

An interviewing committee unanimously named Russell its top choice among three candidates for the post, said Goodview City Administrator Dan Matejka.
Russell is no novice at enforcing the city’s laws; he’s a 19-year veteran of the department and has been assistant chief for 10 years. As chief, Russell will oversee four full-time officers and 14 part-timers.

Matejka said Russell will need to maintain quality police protection amid tight budget constraints.

“The challenge will be to provide services befitting for a city like Goodview, maybe with limited resources,” Matejka said.

Russell could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

" I hope they can cover all the annexed areas they are goobling up. Also I hope Goodview can take care of all the annexed roads too. With all the budget cuts I have a bad feeling they won't be able too. The roads are getting bad going out to Sunny acres. They should take care of the Wenonah Road like the annex agreements they said they would. Goood luck Kent. "
