SUV smashes through brick wall

TOWN OF MENASHA, Wis. (AP) — A sport utility vehicle smashed through the brick wall of a Town of Menasha apartment building, narrowly missing one tenant and causing eight families to find housing elsewhere.

A couple in the SUV were injured and taken to the hospital following the crash just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said the male driver lost control of the SUV, jumped a curb, crossed 50 feet of lawn and plowed into a lower unit of the apartment building.

Lavern Alga was in her living room watching TV and was not injured. Apartment manager Valerie Rohr says it looks like a bomb went off in the apartment because the SUV wiped out the kitchen, bedroom and dining room.

Police cited the driver for operating while intoxicated. Eight families in the building, or about 20 people, were forced to find temporary housing while repairs are made.
