The Minneapolis City Council recently approved the work on the Target Center, and Mayor R.T. Rybak signed off on it.
The goal is to eliminate the echoes that often give a murky sound to live concerts there.
More than 150,000 square feet of material will be used to cover exposed steel surfaces in the high ceiling and cover hard concrete surfaces in the arena.
Target Center General Manager Steve Mattson says the goal is to be done by October 30, when Celine Dion is scheduled to perform.
