Woman found guilty in mushroom case

.
Kathryn Stella Rogers, 30, of Fountain City, Wis., was found guilty of a felony

controlled substance crime
in the fifth degree and misdemeanor failure to provide vehicle insurance after a

21/2 hour deliberation Wednesday by a Winona County jury.

During the two-day trial, an officer from the Winona Police Department testified he found mushrooms in Rogers’ purse July 31, 2006. Subsequent testing of those mushrooms by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension revealed the presence of psilocyn, a hallucinogen defined as a controlled substance under Minnesota law.

Judge Jeffrey D. Thompson set sentencing for 3:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

" Our government tends to out law any thing it has a hard time taxing, unless it is for religious purposes. On the other hand it tends to encourage the use of alcohol and nicotine which it taxes and helps keep the herd in check. Kill the herd as they get older and not as productive with life shortening drugs like nicotine and dumb them down with beer so they do not realize how they are being used. "

" Yes, shrooms are a controlled substance. And if you think because something grows in the wild that it should be okay to ingest or inhale it, then pretty much everything but meth is okay. "

" Felony controlled substance? Oh come on. The cops really need to get a little sense of justice here. Was she driving erratically? Under the influence? Next they will be outlawing Redi whip and cough medicine. What happened to Land of the free? Free to do what we tell you? Our drug laws are just INSANE.
I need a beer and a smoke now. "

" IF IT IS ORGANIC AND GROWING OUT IN THE WILD, IT SHOULD BE LEGAL. IF I PICK UP A COUPLE OF MUSHROOMS OUT IN MY PASTURE AND TAKE THEM BACK HOME I SHOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO ARREST, BUT IF I WERE GOING TO SELL THEM TO SOMEONE, WELL THAT IS ANOTHER STORY. "

" They already do and they also arrest for seeds and stems. I guess the police have nothing better to do. "

" Mushrooms? Next thing you know they will be arresting people for marijuana "
