The groups that received honors for being at least 150 years old were farms, families, churches, schools, businesses, cities, townships, county offices and other organizations. More than 150 groups were honored — what a tremendous job! And true to real life, an hour into the ceremonies, Sheriff Brand announced the need to evacuate the fairgrounds to relocate in the St. Charles High School due to approaching severe weather.
I had to high-tail it home to get the hay in my wagon under cover, while Bob and his staff completed presenting plaques and doing the honor activities necessary under adverse conditions.
From one old settler to another, a hardy thank you Bob for successfully completing a service to others job which most of us could or would not do!
