The Chiefs first-round opponent in the Twin Rivers League East division playoffs, the St. Charles Sting, produced only seven players for their scheduled playoff opener Friday at Gabrych Park.
After some last-minute scrambling to track down additional St. Charles players, the Chiefs were awarded a forfeit in what was to be a best-of-three series. The forfeit guaranteed the Chiefs a spot in the regional playoffs as the top two teams from each division advance.
The No. 1 seeded Chiefs now await the winner of a best-of-three series between East division No. 2 Houston and No. 3 Plainview.
The Chiefs will host that game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gabrych Park. The winner will earn a higher seed in the regional playoffs.
