Baseball roundup: Big sixth inning propels Alma over C-FC

ALMA, Wis. — Alma High School’s baseball team scored six runs in the sixth inning Thursday to close the door on a 12-5 victory over visiting Cochrane-Fountain City in the Dairyland Conference.

Mitch Schamaun hit a two-run triple and Korry Iberg had an RBI single to highlight the rally. The six-run frame ballooned the Rivermen’s lead from 6-5 to 12-5 before C-FC went down scoreless in the seventh.
Schamaun finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Iberg, Sam Wieland, Brady Ritscher and Tim Ruff all had two hits for Alma, while Tyler Fink went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Alma’s Jordan Ludwigson pitched 5 1/3 innings and struck out six to pick up the win.

John Schmidtknecht went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for C-FC. Sam White finished 2-for-4 with a double.

West Salem 17, I/G 11

WEST SALEM, Wis. — West Salem pounded out 18 hits to outlast Independence/Gilmanton in a slugfest and stay unbeaten in the Dairyland Conference.

I/G had 15 hits, led by a 3-for-5 performance from Andy Curtis. Curtis had two doubles and two RBIs.

Eight different West Salem (8-1, 8-0) players had multi-hit games. Dan Schneider went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and four RBIs.

American Legion

W-K 5, D-E 2

WABASHA, Minn. — Chris Sill went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Matt Sandstrom had a triple and two RBIs to lead Wabasha-Kellogg past Dover-Eyota.

Kyler Stiner pitched 6 1/3 innings in relief and picked up the win. Stiner, pitching for the first time this summer and second time this year, struck out four, walked one and scattered 10 hits.

Lake City 3, Lewiston 2

LAKE CITY, Minn. — Lewiston tied the game 2-2 with a run in the top of the seventh, but Lake City scored on a passed ball for a walk-off win in the bottom of the inning.

Andy Neumann and Cole Kukowski had two hits apiece for Lewiston. The Cardinals had seven hits to Lake City’s six, but committed three errors to Lake City’s two.

Lewiston starter Aaron Phillips struck out six over five innings in a no-decision.
