Interstate 90 is a carnival ride, U.S. Highway 61 a rutted mess and now the
surprise closure of the Highway 43 Interstate bridge due to corrosion, a condition that takes substantial time to develop on such a scale.
Apparently, this corner of the state is on some kind of “yeah, whatever” infrastructure list.
Elected officials excusing the closure by saying “public safety first” are just taking the easy, cliché way out.
The public they’re so worried about would be far better served by proper maintenance and an actual plan for necessary construction.
