U.S. House congratulates WSU men’s basketball team

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution by a unanimous vote Wednesday night to congratulate the Winona State University basketball team for its recent success, which include winning the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.

The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., cited team achievements, such as setting a Division II record 57-game win streak, and individual success, such as guard Jonte Flowers’ being named the 2008 NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, as reasons for the resolution.

“I’m immensely proud of these young men,” Rep. Walz said in a statement. “Teams like this one bring our communities together and help us remember that we share not only a

common interest in athletic activities, but also the tendency to dream big and the will to achieve those big dreams.”
